In the weekend of 13 and 20 June takes place in Forni di Sopra, Friuli Venezia Giulia, the traditional Festival of Spring Herbs.

The wide and green Fornese basin, in the Val Tagliamento, is one of the most beautiful places in Carnia,

an authentic paradise environment surrounded by the beautiful natural setting of the Dolomites peaks shared with Cadore.

The greedy appointment, is among the most anticipated and officially opens its doors to summer tourists:

an unmissable opportunity for those who,to a stay in alpine places intact and wild, wants to combine the pleasure of good food and

the curiosity to find outthe secrets of the forest and its gastronomic riches.

The kermesse, at the maximum of flowering of meadows, is a tribute to the ancient tradition of collectingof Spring wild herbs, the main ingredient of dishes and Fornesi carnici generally. The local inhabitants like to remember that even the Most Serene Republic of Venice,

which dominated long these parts,procured themselves for pharmaceutical and food purposes of the many varieties of this special flora.

From silene sorrel, from dandelion to buttercups, from fennel to anise upstream.

The festival program is full of events.

The streets of Forni di Sopra, with the characteristic wooden architecture of the old houses,are full of the many colors of the traditional exhibition-market of agricultural and craft products. Among a tasting and the other,at the food stalls you can participate in many meetings and conferences on the properties of the herbs and their use.

Children have animations and games, while numerous musical moments accompany the evenings in the village.

They are also staged exhibitions of herbs, mushrooms and berries, while special areas are reserved for tasty dairy productsof local pastures, the preparation of which is also linked to mixtures of fragrant mountain herbs.

Trekking lovers can also take advantage of many historical naturalistic walks and guided hikes among the mountains

of the Natural Park of the Friulian Dolomites.
